The 411 on How to Dress for Your Esession (ladies edition) | Louisville Wedding Photography

If you’ve known me for all of 5 minutes, you know I am definitely the LAST PERSON who should be giving fashion advice.  In fact, ask most of my closest friends…they have saved me from more than a few fashion blunders!  Thank goodness for my friends who are honest enough to let me know, “girl…that look just doesn’t work.”  So take all of this with a grain of salt if you will, but as a photographer who has shot tons of engagement sessions, I have at least been blessed with clients that DO have an amazing sense of style and luckily I HAVE seen what works!

A few tips leading into this.  Obviously, I am not saying buy these exact outfits.  These are just suggestions to give you some inspiration when you go shopping for the big shoot!  The number one MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember…dress for you!  Dress what you are comfortable in and what you feel most beautiful in.  That may be a sweet little sundress with flirty high heels, or your favorite casual jeans with comfy flip flops.  While this is the time to look your best, now may not be the best time to venture out too much from your standard look.  After all these pics are meant to be a reflection of you and who you and your fiance are at this exact moment in your life.  So while I am saying, don’t be afraid of color and some bold accessories, maintain you and your style first!

Second, BE COMFORTABLE!  We do a lot of walking, sitting, standing, snuggling, and moving around.  So don’t wear the dress you can’t stoop down in.  Or the jeans you had to lay on the bed and hold your breath to the point of passing out just to get zipped!  Again, comfy for one may be a skirt and heels while it is jeans and sneaks for another.

Third, COORDINATE…DON’T MATCH.  Of course all of us girls get to pick our outfits first, and then we try and blend that man of ours wardrobe into something that compliments us well.  While this is all good, and encouraged even….stray away from matching shirts and pants.  (i.e. you’ve all seen those khaki pants and white shirt family photos where one member of the family just blends into the next…AWKWARD!)  So if he’s in jeans and a nice fitted polo…go khakis and a bold color tank top!

Fourth, ACCESSORIZE!  Don’t be affraid to break out the big necklaces and bracelets.  They add just the right pop of color and playfulness to your outfits.  They go a LONG way to jazz up jeans, a simple “t” and sneakers.  They can be your best friend!  And go bold with the shoes.  Again…lots of walking may be involved, so if you don’t have the first clue how to wear a heel….DON’T!  But break out some fun colors and let your personality shine!

Finally, we encourage all of our couples to bring a couple outfits with them…so feel free to go dressy and snazzy with one outfit and comfortable casual with the next.  Show off all of your personality and most importantly…HAVE FUN!

So…here we go.

Here you’ll see a good mix of styles.  The first being super casual, but maintaining some vintage style.  The second, a little more dressy, but loose and flirty.  The third is a perfect blend of dress and casual.  Depending on the accessories you blend with any of these, the possibilities of looks are endless!

ACCESSORIES!  Some of big and bold, while others are simple and easy.  Either way…work them in…you’ll be glad you did!

Shoes…three versions of fun footwear.  While these three may not be your perfect taste…they are perfect to show the color pop and pizazz they can bring to your session!

We have a ton of esessions on the books and a few more we are squeezing in, so we thought this post would be perfect in timing.  Hope this helps all of our brides to be out there…and if any of our past brides have their own nuggets of wisdom to offer…be sure to put them in the comment section!  I’m sure all of our current brides who are nervous about how this all works would love some little treasures of wisdom handed down!

Thanks for reading guys!

Joe & Autumn: MARRIED! | Louisville, Kentucky Wedding Photographer

So it hasn’t been too long ago since these two graced the blog with their gorgeous winter, snowy engagement session, but this time the sun was out, the weather was warm, and the wedding day had arrived!  It was a beautiful spring day and these two took full advantage of it!  They elected to do a “first look”, which you all know I love…feel free to ask me about it if you want more details!  But for all of you brides out there who are worried about losing the emotion of that big reveal…ask Autumn about that!  She still balled like a baby walking down that aisle!  It was so precious!

Autumn was gorgeous as ever and Joe was pulling off “good looking-cool, guy” like no one else could!  The setting was perfect and the pictures reflected it!  Hope you guys enjoy!

Donnie & Jasmine: ENGAGED! | Kentucky Wedding Photographer

These two are the definition of adorable.  They were so worried about looking awkward, or not knowing what to do…but I think you’ll all agree that they are one of the most beautiful couples to ever grace this blog!  And funny…these two got that covered.  Donnie knows how to pull the biggest laugh out of Jasmine, and he just is simply incapable of not smiling around her!  I love this session, I love the spring, and I love that their wedding is not far away!  So without further adieu…enjoy!

Donnie and Jasmine are a super cute couple, you definitely captured their happiness.

Larry & Audrey: MARRIED! | Louisville Wedding Photographer

Finally!  Our first wedding of the amazing 2011 year ahead is on the blog!  We were so excited to get back behind the camera and do what we love!  And Audrey and Larry were a perfect couple to kick our year off right!

True, the weather was a little less than ideal, and it was a tad chilly, but hey…these two were ready to roll with the punches and certainly weren’t going to let a little moisture in the air ruin their big day!  Audrey and Larry are a super sweet couple with a super sweet love story that is written all over their faces!  It was fun to watch and listen to them as they waited all day to see each other when the church doors opened, and from that point on…they couldn’t keep their eyes off of one another.  So for all you future brides and grooms out there….take a lesson from these two and don’t let the little things like a little rain, or small speed bumps in the way distract you from the perfection that is your wedding day!  These guys did it right!

Larry and Audrey also went all out on their details.  Every where you turned it was perfectly decorated with such fun colors, intricacy and thought.  As photographer’s we certainly love all the fun eye candy around every corner!  Way to go guys….very VERY well done!

Hope you guys enjoy this little preview before you head off on your honeymoon!

Joe & Autumn: ENGAGED! | Louisville Wedding Photographer

It was cold.  It was early.  It was perfect.  Because of scheduling conflicts it worked out best to do a “sunrise” session with Autumn and Joe, rather than our typical “sunset” time slots….but I’m so glad we did!  Yes it was early, and yes it was freezing cold, and yes there was lots of snow involved…but these two were troopers who were up for anything and I love how the final product came out because of it!

You guys were cuddly, cute, sweet, and perfectly in love.  It was fun to shoot, and fun to watch.  I hope you guys enjoy these as much as we do!

Autumn you have some of the most gorgeous eyes I have ever seen.  And two watch you guys love and adore each other truly was special to see.  Your cute little spring wedding will be here before we know it and we couldn’t be more excited about it.  I am super pumped to hang with you guys again in April!  See ya soon!
